Luxury Staircase Makeover Restores Entrance at Tysons Galleria
Shoppers visiting Tysons Galleria in Tysons, Virginia, expect a high-end experience from the moment they arrive. Home to shops such as Balenciaga, Burberry, Cartier, and Dolce & Gabbana, the shopping center is known for its upscale atmosphere. Such a location deserves elegance all around, but in one area of the shopping center, an old metal staircase needed a major update. A contractor tasked with figuring out a solution for the staircase contacted Bob Miller, Vice President at SUNDEK of Washington, to see if there was anything SUNDEK could do.
At Tysons Galleria in Tysons, VA, SUNDEK of Washington revived a deteriorating metal staircase using SunPlay.Bob came to the site to assess the situation and found that the staircase was rusted and seriously deteriorating. At first, Bob thought the stairs were a lost cause and that the best course of action was to replace them. But, after some time and doing a bit of research, he determined that SUNDEK could help, and SunPlay would be the right solution.

Unlike hard concrete, it has a cushiony feel underfoot, so it’s comfortable to walk on. In addition to resisting damage from UV rays, it’s also resistant to abrasion, chemical leaching, and fungal growth. The contractor on the project was thrilled about the potential solution, and SUNDEK of Washington began their work on the staircase. Before putting down any product, they first needed to remove loose rust or paint chips and prepare the metal so that the coating of SunPlay would adhere to it.
After successfully removing anything that would interfere with the adhesion of the new product, SUNDEK crews completed concrete infill where necessary to make sure each stair was level. Once the base was ready, they applied SunPlay in Midnight to the stairs.

After sitting through a tough winter, the stairs still look great, the product has held up extremely well. With the right product and preparation, SUNDEK of Washington was able to extend the life of the structure, saving the owners time, cost, and disruption.
