Award: 2025 Project of the Year, Silver
Manor Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, planned to celebrate their 100-year anniversary by giving their private club a complete makeover. Knowing they wanted to upgrade many of their surfaces, a member of the club referred the facilities manager, Jane Poetker, to SUNDEK of Washington.
Get a free estimateJohn (JR) Switts, sales consultant for SUNDEK of Washington, reached out to Jane and planned a time to come out and look at the property. During his visit, JR noticed that there were sections of the concrete that had been renovated in the past, but those changes had resulted in “old” and “new” concrete side by side—not the polished look that the private country club had hoped for.
Fortunately, through resurfacing, SUNDEK can place a coating on top of a concrete surface to create a consistent look that spans old and new concrete, making it so that you can’t tell the difference between the two.
Based on the phone conversation he’d had with Jane before visiting the property, JR brought several coating samples with him for Jane to look through. Those weren’t exactly what the country club was looking for, so JR took information he’d gathered during his visit, and just a few days later, he brought a sample that was perfect. In fact, Jane’s exact words were “Wow!”
The plan was to overlay 8,000 square feet of concrete that included walkways and other concrete paved areas. SUNDEK crews would use SunStamp, a customizable cementitious overlay, with grout in multiple colors. Learn more about how you can get stamped concrete over existing concrete.
As SUNDEK of Washington began working on the walkways and other paved surfaces, Jane was so impressed with their work that she requested a proposal for two outdoor pool areas—an additional 15,000 square feet of concrete.
JR proposed Classic Texture for the pool deck surfaces. Classic Texture, also known as “knockdown texture” is known in the industry for its many great qualities: in addition to being durable, it’s also slip resistant, so it’s perfect for resurfacing pool decks that see a lot of foot traffic. Because it has a non-porous acrylic finish, a surface that’s been coated with Classic Texture is more likely to resist staining from contaminants such as spilled food, sunscreen, and more.
SUNDEK of Washington seamlessly blended old and new concrete and revived surfaces, revitalizing the outdoor spaces at the country club. From the elegantly stamped walkways and hangout areas to the durable and slip-resistant pool decks, every surface was designed to enhance both aesthetics and functionality. Jane and the Manor Country Club staff were thrilled with the beautifully upgraded surfaces that will be enjoyed by members and guests for years to come.
At SUNDEK of Washington, we resurface concrete in the major metros in the area, including Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, and Reston, Virginia; Bethesda, Frederick, Gaithersburg, and Hagerstown, Maryland; Washington D.C.; and beyond.
