Great Wolf Lodge has more than 20 locations, providing people all over the country with a family-friendly place to spend time together. Each location, which also has lodging, boasts an indoor waterpark and various other amenities such as bowling alleys and ropes courses. When Great Wolf Lodge added their Perryville, Maryland location, they reached out to SUNDEK of Washington to bid on the installation work on the surfaces of several common areas and dining spaces.
Before this project, SUNDEK and Great Wolf Lodge had collaborated on five other locations, customizing each based on architectural specs for the specific sites. For the Perryville location, Turner Construction, the general contractor on all Great Wolf Lodge projects, wanted the look of stone, but in two different ways: for one area, they wanted the appearance of stamped dark-gray stones laid out in a pattern. For another area, they wanted the look of a light-tan stone slab. In other areas, they wanted a completely different look: wood planks.
Free Analysis & EstimateSUNDEK of Washington bid on the project and was selected as the contractor to complete the overlays in these areas. For the gray stone finish, they used SunStamp, a versatile custom stamped concrete overlay. With SunStamp, SUNDEK contractors can create a customized look with stamps or freeform carving. This overlay can also be stained or dyed to fit the client’s preferred style. In this case, SUNDEK of Washington used a prefabricated stamp in the color Concrete Gray to create the dark stone façade.
Neighboring the dark stone in areas is a light tan surface, also coated with SunStamp. These areas were colored in Buff and stamped with a texture that mimics the look of a stone slab.
For the other areas of the lodge, Turner Construction specified that they wanted SUNDEK’s Tuscan Wood Plank effect. To create this effect, SUNDEK uses their Tuscan coating, a thin overlay that can be scored and stamped to create custom designs. In this case, SUNDEK of Washington hand-trowelled the coating to create the look of wood planks. They used three colors here: Black, Coral Reef, and Dark Chocolate.

The beauty of this type of design is that you get the look of wood floors but the durability of concrete. On top of being easy to clean, SUNDEK’s decorative concrete coatings are also stain-resistant. This type of surface is perfect for a dining area that will host hundreds of people a day, including young children.
In just two short weeks, SUNDEK of Washington resurfaced over 19,000 square feet of concrete in three different designs that come together to create a cohesive look. In addition to installing a surface that looks fantastic, the surface is also safe and comfortable for people of all ages to walk on, and capable of handling foot traffic from the many visitors who come to Great Wolf Lodge year-round.
