A couple years after the beloved Buckroe Beach Pier was destroyed by Hurricane Isabella in 2003, the City of Hampton set out to revitalize the area. They had several goals, one of them being to extend the boardwalk which would complete the promenade along the beach. To achieve this, they needed significant work done on the concrete.
A Hampton-Virginia based construction company, Kerrick Construction, had previously worked on municipal projects with the city, and they set out to submit a proposal for the boardwalk portion of the project. That’s when Mark Kerrick, President of Kerrick Construction, contacted Bob Miller of SUNDEK of Washington to discuss ideas and the possibility of being a subcontractor for the job.
GET A QUOTE FOR YOUR PROJECTAfter meeting Mark at Buckroe Beach to see the project site and discuss ideas, Bob believed SUNDEK products would be the perfect solution for the project. After reviewing bids, the City of Hampton and Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc., the engineering firm on the project, had SUNDEK create samples, and members of the community voted on their favorite samples during a public forum. Out of 20 samples, SUNDEK was the top choice among voters.
